Week1 B: Social Media Use Today
Social Media Use
Social Media is increasing daily in people's lives. At first, I think the platforms were created with the personal propose of interacting with family and friends, but then it starting to grow so much that became a tool for business as well. Either if you just want to catch you with your family, or if you want sell a product, social media is a channel for that, for personal and professional use.
Some platforms are exclusively used for professional interactions, like Linkedin and similar, where you promote yourself and your career when you are looking for a job. And some of them are more focused on the personal, such as Snapchat, when you interact with your friends sending private pictures of the highlights of your day or anything you would like to share.
But there are also the other platforms and app that can be used for both, like Facebook, Instagram, Youtube... all of them you can create content to share your thoughts, photos, chat with friends, or you can promote your business, trying to attract your target public, customers, share your work, interact with clients, engage the followers to promote some ads. It feels that there are no limits when we talk about social media, you can do so many things that the list is endless.
My feeling about them can be very controversial. I think it is a brilliant and essential tool nowadays for any type of business, I want to learn more to use it for when I have a business. For personal I think it is helpful and very fun to have it. I personally use the social media to connect with my friends and family. I am online on whatsapp and instagram pretty much all day long, and it is amazing that i can talk to my family anytime of the day while they are so far away from me and with hours ahead in their continent. I enjoy seeing content on instagram, following pages that I share interests, making appointments by chat on whatsapp... Social Media is an essential tool for me.
But, in the other hand, I feel that it can be harmful if the users dont find a balance. First of all with the amount of time that I can spend while scrolling and interacting on the virtual world can leave me feeling drained and exhausted, but also feeling that I could have lived the real life while I was just scrolling. And also, the real life is out here. Even though people shares a lot about their personal life in social media, we don't know what actually is true and we just have access to what they intentionally post. So when it comes to personal use of social media, it can be harmful if you find yourself comparing your life and your success to others that are posting. I think that it can be very problematic and another subject with a lot of considerations.
