Week 12 Part A: Using Business Specific Online Tools

Doing some research I found that some platforms can improve a business.

Yelp:

We have discussed previously how important it is for a business to have a good reputation on the internet. Yelp is a platform that people can search for local businesses and discover so many features from the places. Yelp is known specially for the rating tool, but it is commonly used just to find out more information of the business. For example, if it is a restaurant you can see the rating, location, hours, if its pet friendly, if it has outdoor seating, find photos and the menu, sometimes you even have the option to make a reservation or place a delivery. One interesting tool too is to "request a quote", where you describe what you need/are looking for and pick the type of businesses to contact you with a quote. For example, when I broke the screen of my old phone I didn't know where to go, so I requested a quote on Yelp and in a few minutes 5 different companies texted me on the app telling what needed to be done and their price. It was one of the best things that I found that on Yelp, I could see how much I would pay for the service, the locations I could go and the reviews, everything fast and easy. Now I do that for everything I need and I don't know where to go. I think this is good for the business and for the person, both are benefited by this featured, once the company can reach out offering themselves and their service and the person can easily find help. Plus, if it is a good service, the client can always leave a good review!

For my business I think that Yelp is definitely helpful! I would be able to have the gym there (similar to Google), but with the perks that only Yelp has.

Linkedin

I think Linkedin is a great place for people and companies to advertise and find jobs, but for my business I don't think I would be using it much. I might need to find help when I start to create a website and need a web designer, help with the logo as well, maybe some business advisor, but those are things that I would probably get recommendations from friends that owns businesses already. Since it's a small business, I dont think I need to hire more workers, unless we expand into couple locations in the future. But most of the coaches and athletes are not looking for jobs in Linkedin, usually people hire a student who wants to become a teacher and is promoted from brown belt to blackbelt, I have never heard of people finding jobs on Linkedin.

Comments

  1. It feels like linked in is for larger companies. I don't think it would help my business out too much at this point either.

  2. Hey Larissa,

Yelp seems to be helpful to gain trust of costumers by having good reviews. LinkedIn is more of place for networking.
